TPO: CAS confirms the sanction imposed by the FIFA club FC Seraing

According to a press release of FIFA, the Court of Arbitration for Sport have confirmed, under the law of the European Union, the sanction imposed by the Disciplinary Committee FC Seraing for violations of the regulations related to property rights economic players by third parties and the influence of third parties.

By its press release, Fifa welcomes the decision rendered by the CAS.

The International Federation specifies that the CAS has reduced the "initial sanction of four to three registration periods".

The CAS has nevertheless "recognized and confirmed the validity of the sanction imposed by FIFA regarding the ownership of players' economic rights by third parties (TPO)".

After recalling that the Brussels Court of First Instance and the Brussels Court of Appeal had considered "qthere was no evidence to support the irregularity of the ban on the ownership of players' economic rights by third parties"Fifa says"lhe decision taken on March 9, 2017 by the CAS is the first to recognize the said ban as well-founded under EU law".

FIFA reiterates that "this ban was adopted in order to preserve the independence of clubs and players in the context of transfers and other recruitments, as well as to guarantee the integrity of matches and competitions".
