Mr. Christophe BERTRAND was interviewed by Europe 1, live on the show of Ms. Raphaëlle DUCHEMIN of 4 June 2018, about the trial that opens today in front of the Criminal Court of Paris 9 warned in connection with suspicion of attempt of arranging football matches in 2014.

Reminder of the criminal definitions of active and passive corruption in sports competition

Active sports corruption is defined inarticle 445-1-1 of the Penal Code which has: 

"Is punished for five years imprisonment and a fine of 500 000 €, the amount of which may be doubled to the proceeds of the offense, the fact, by propose, without the right, at any time, directly or indirectly, to an actor in a sporting event giving rise to bets, offers, promises, presents, donations or any advantages, for himself or for others, for this actor, by an act or an abstention, to modify the normal and fair course of this manifestation or because this actor, by an act or an abstention, has modified the normal and fair course of this event."

Passive sports corruption is defined at 445-2-1 article of the Penal Code which has: 

"Is punished for five years imprisonment and a fine of 500 000 €, the amount of which can be doubled of the proceeds from the infringement, the fact, by an actor of a sports event giving rise to bets, to solicit or approve of anyone, without right, at any time, directly or indirectly, of offers, promises, presents, gifts or advantages of any kind, for himself or for others, for change or for having modified, by an act or an abstention, the normal and fair progress of this event."

As a reminder, no player of the meetings referred to is among the nine defendants returned to the Paris Criminal Court.
