World Anti Doping Agency

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) published on September 29, 2016, the list of prohibited substances and methods for 2017. The List, which includes the substances and methods that are prohibited in competition and out of competition, as well as the substances which are banned in certain sports, will come into force on January 1, 2017.

Methods and substances prohibited by WADA

The President of WADA would like to recall that this list is "one of the five International Standards that all signatories to the World Anti-Doping Code are required to respect. All athletes everywhere are expected to abide by these rules, and there will be no tolerance for those who intentionally break them.".

He specifies that it is updated annually and is "published three months before its effective date so that all partners - especially athletes and members of their entourage - have sufficient time to familiarize themselves with the document and the modifications made to it".

Duly substantiated medical reason

The legitimate medical reason

WADA's press release indicates that "athletes who have a legitimate medical reason to use a prohibited substance or method appearing on the List may obtain an authorization under the International Standard for the Use of Therapeutic Use (ISAUT)".

Only English versions of the List and Summary of the main changes are now available, but WADA specified that the French version would be published shortly.
